Individual Psychotherapy
I have a Holistic, Mindfulness based approach to therapy. Whether you are seeking treatment for a specific condition or need help with managing the challenges in your life, I pay attention to all the parts of the human system (self, body, mind, emotion, spirituality, relationships) and help you bring them into balance. I have a compassionate, non-judgmental way of helping my clients become more self-aware and empower them to tap into their inner resources. I am passionate about helping others and use my knowledge, creativity, and humor to help transform and improve the way you experience yourself and the world around you.

Couples Counseling
All relationships experience conflict. It is not the absence of conflict but the capacity to deal with and resolve conflict that is a hallmark of deeply fulfilling relationships. Sometimes a conflict is too heated to handle without professional help, or a couple can simply feel stuck. Couples therapy provides the opportunity to transform old relationship patterns with new skills, compassion, humor and insight.
Here are four primary areas of focus that I have found to be most helpful to couples:

Sex Addiction Help
WHAT IS SEXUAL ADDICTION?
According to 'The Meadows,' the term “sexual addiction” describes an individual having an unusual fascination with or fixation on sex. Constant daydreaming about sex takes over and controls an addict’s thinking, making it challenging to work or manage healthy personal relationships. Despite the possibility that their actions may eventually carry serious and/or harmful consequences, sex addicts often indulge in a variety of high-risk, acting-out behaviors.
For people struggling with compulsive sexual thoughts and/or behavior, life can be fraught with anxiety. Many who get caught up in compulsive sexual behaviors find themselves leading a "double life" with a terror of being caught, combined with a profound sense of shame. Often a sense of hopelessness sets in when an individual realizes that his/her best efforts to stop the behavior(s) are clearly not working.

EMDR
What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of therapy that can help individuals who are "stuck," or unable to move past a painful event. Originally used to help veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), it is now also utilized for a variety of conditions, helping to reduce the intensity of disturbing thoughts under certain conditions. EMDR can also be used to enhance emotional resources such as confidence and self-esteem.

Men's Sex/Porn Addiction Group Therapy
The majority of men who struggle with sex addiction share similarities: poorly developed personal relationships and a disconnection from their feelings. Male sex addicts often confuse or substitute sexual acting out with emotional intimacy. Furthermore, they are often not connected to a social group in which they can explore and develop safe and healthy male-to-male relationships. In this group, the men grow and heal as a result of the therapeutic interventions, the shared sense of accountability, and the transparent and supportive relationships.
Group therapy and individual therapy are among the most effective treatment modalities for sex addiction. Typically, group therapy is provided in conjunction with other therapies. Although there are similarities, group therapy is not the same as a 12-Step group. The 12-Step group, although an important and at times vital component of sexual addiction recovery, approaches sex addiction differently than individual and group therapy.
Sex addiction treatment begins with a thoughtful, sensitive, and thorough assessment. From the assessment, treatment options are recommended. For sex addicts who are not in need of inpatient or intensive outpatient treatment programs, individual, couples counseling and/or group therapy are often recommended.
I am offering group therapy for men who are struggling with Sexual Addiction or Sexual Compulsivity. This includes cybersex/internet porn addiction and romance addictions. Robert Schnitzius LMFT, CSAT will be facilitating this important treatment option for male sex addicts. Sex addiction group therapy provides a safe and effective place for men to address the multi-layered aspects of their addiction: relationships, family, work, friends, self-esteem, finances, etc.
If you have any questions about the group, please call 510.394.2209 for more information.
Robert Schnitzius, MA, LMFT is a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). He provides comprehensive treatment and assessment services for sex and internet addicts and their partners, as well as professional consultation and training services.
All referred clients must agree to an initial interview/diagnostic session during which Robert Schnitzius and the client will determine the appropriateness of group therapy. Group therapy is not recommended for sex addicts who are in the beginning stages of recovery; instead, individual therapy is a more appropriate option.
